Kim Brooklyn
Manager, Positive Services
Over the past 32 years I have worked in a number of community and health based services. Initially as a mental health nurse, then a psychologist (I hold a Masters degree and a specialist title) , and since 2002 a Manager and consultant. In 2009 I was very fortunate to be offered the position of Manager Positive Services, and I began in this role in July that year. To date it has been a very enriching and rewarding experience as we, the whole team at WAAC, strive to achieve our aim of providing high quality, sustainable and viable services to people living with HIV.

HIV+ve Peer Educator/Support/Treatments.

I have been living with HIV since 1993. In January 2001 I started working at WAAC providing one to one peer support and education.
In my work role I also facilitate workshops, retreats and an online support group. As many people with HIV now continue work after diagnosis, my working hours are reasonably flexible.

Support Officer

I started at WAAC in 1999 as a Support Services Volunteer but had a break from 2001 until August 2003 where I started back as a volunteer on the Needle and Syringe Exchange Van. June 2004 I became a staff member in the Needle and Syringe Exchange Program and then at the end of 2006 I became a Support Officer. My role is varied and challenging and involves providing practical and financial support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Support Officer

I am the newest addition to the Positive Services Team, as Support Officer. My role is rewarding, diverse and challenging, providing support and financial assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS. I have enjoyed a long history with WAAC and began volunteering in 1999 on Aidsline, Public Speaking Program, NSEP and Events. I have a strong background in Youth Work, Drug & Alcohol and Education. My journey led me to becoming a member of WAAC staff on the Needle & Syringe Program (NSEP), in which I still maintain an active role, and now on to Positive Services, to travel another path.

I work for WAAC as a part-time counsellor. I love working here, as I’ve always been passionate about sexual health and fostering positive sexual identities.
I have a degree in anthropology and sexology, and I’m finishing a degree in psychology. Previously I worked for the Sex Worker’s Outreach Project of WA and the Same Sex Domestic Abuse Group. Within my role here I hope to empower people to value themselves and find peace and inspiration.
