Community Health Promotion Services

Sally Rowell

Community Health Promotion Services Manager

Sally_RowellI have been employed at WAAC going on 14 years. I began my career at WAAC in the Community Education Department where I held a number of roles including Prisons Project Officer and Women’s Officer. In 2001 I moved into management and held the role of Positive Services Manager until July 2009. From July I have taken on the position of  Community Health Promotion Services Department  Manager. I find this role both challenging and rewarding and am lucky enough to be supported by a great team. I believe that this department is both innovative and cutting edge and I look forward to the future with great anticipation.

Tenille Wightman

Training & Development Officer

tenillewightman.jpgI started as a volunteer at WAAC while studying health sciences at university; and my time as a volunteer here inspired me to stay working in the are of sexual health, and in particular HIV. Most of my experience over the past 5 years has been working on sexual health and women’s health programs in rural and remote areas of WA, and I was lucky enough to land a position that had me spending the last 2 years working on HIV programs in the Pacific, on the islands of Samoa.

I am currently working hard at completely my Masters of International Health to compliment my work. 5 years later I am now a staff member at WAAC after not having left this challenging and yet rewarding constituent of health. As the Training and Development Officer at WAAC, it is my role to develop, implement and evaluate our internal training programs for staff and volunteers, and our external training programs for schools, prison officers, police recruits, medical professionals, community groups, and other key stakeholders.

Asha Singh

Health Promotion Officer

ashaMy time at WAAC started in 2008, when I was lucky enough to be given a practicum placement here. After completing my 450 prac hours and graduating with a Health Science degree, I continued to undertake some casual work and volunteering work with the council. In early 2009 a permanent staff position became available and I have been working here ever since.

I absolutely love my job; the work is very rewarding and it is a great honour to be working with such a knowledgeable, experienced, dynamic, passionate group of people.

I have been employed with the WAAIDS Council as the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Development Project Officer since 2003. Over the last 5 year I have prided my self in sharing knowledge and history around Aboriginal culture and our heritage. I am an Aboriginal woman born and raised in the country of the Central Wheatbelt region.

I have been very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work with a great range of diverse personalities within such a supportive work environment where there is dedication and passion in strengthening our work with Whole Of Community in the area of HIV/AIDS and STI prevention to promoting and enhance the delivery of HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health education and awareness for and with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community within the metropolitan, rural and remote areas of Western Australia.

Kelly Marlow

NSEP Admin and Outreach – Needle and Syringe Exchange Program

kelly marlowI began working on the Needle and Syringe Exchange Program as a volunteer a number of years ago. I recently obtained a position within NSEP as an admin and casual outreach officer.

I have a strong background in Community Services, both in Counselling, support and welfare work. I worked as a support worker in a womens refuge for a number of years, where drug and alcohol issues were prevalent, and as a counsellor for the Salvation Army. I find my experience in these areas are beneficial when working with those who use drugs.

I love my position within this program and hope to continue for many years to come.

graceoh.jpg I have enjoyed a long history with WAAC and began volunteering in 1999 on Aidsline, Public Speaking Program, NSEP and Events. I have a strong background in Youth Work, Drug & Alcohol and Education. My journey led me to becoming a member of WAAC staff on the Needle & Syringe Program (NSEP), in which I still maintain an active role, and now on to Positive Services, to travel another path.

Nadine Toussaint

Social Marketing & Design Officer

Nadine_Toussaint

I began my time at WAAC as a Freedom Centre volunteer in 2003. In 2005 I became the Freedom Centre Coordinator. This role provided me with many opportunities, from working directly with young people to running training and workshops for professionals. I also had the pleasure of working with a fantastic volunteer team.

In September 2007 I started in my new position as the Social Marketing and Design Officer. I am now responsible for the Council's websites, advertising and design. After years of working directly with young people, this role has been a big change for me. I have learnt a great deal in a very short time and I find this position both rewarding and challenging.

Catherine Daymond

Volunteer Coordinator

Cath_DaymondI only recently joined WAAC after many years in business. My previous roles have been predominantly in management and administration with a strong focus on time management, communication and organisational skills.

Disillusioned with deteriorating job satisfaction and the focal point of my employment centred on accumulating wealth, I am very happy to be working with such a dynamic team with common community oriented goals.

I am partnered with two great teenagers and in my spare time I enjoy camping, gardening, playing eight ball, creating mosaic, cooking, listening to music, reading and spending time with my family. Another great love is travel and I am lucky enough to have travelled extensively throughout Australia, Asia and the United States.

I love my new position and look forward to building and maintaining an active and satisfied volunteer team and providing them with the support they need to help those in our community who are living with, or at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS..
