Sally Rowell

Community Health Promotion Services Manager

Sally RowellI have been employed at WAAC going on 14 years. I began my career at WAAC in the Community Education Department where I held a number of roles including Prisons Project Officer and Women’s Officer. In 2001 I moved into management and held the role of Positive Services Manager until July 2009. From July I have taken on the position of  Community Health Promotion Services Department  Manager. I find this role both challenging and rewarding and am lucky enough to be supported by a great team. I believe that this department is both innovative and cutting edge and I look forward to the future with great anticipation.

Nadine Toussaint

Social Marketing & Design Officer

Nadine Toussaint

I began my time at WAAC as a Freedom Centre volunteer in 2003. In 2005 I became the Freedom Centre Coordinator. This role provided me with many opportunities, from working directly with young people to running training and workshops for professionals. I also had the pleasure of working with a fantastic volunteer team.

In September 2007 I started in this position as the Social Marketing and Design Officer. I am responsible for the Council's websites, advertising and design.

Sarah Collins

Volunteer Coordinator

Sarah Collins
I have recently returned to WAAC after a few years’ absence.  WAAC was my first paid role in volunteer management and introduced me to a new career, after many years working in the arts as a freelance performer, composer, publicist and arts manager.

I was Volunteer Administrator at WAAC from 2003 to 2006, during which time I assisted the organisation to move towards a more centralised system of volunteer management.  In 2006 I moved to Melbourne to take up the position of Volunteer Coordinator at the Victorian AIDS Council/Gay Men’s Health Centre, a position which had many similarities as well as many differences to WAAC.  I also spent a short time working on a pilot project for home visiting volunteers in an aged care setting and in a research role for a volunteer resource centre.

Volunteer Management is definitely where I want to be.  I have been privileged to work with so many fantastic volunteers over the years, as well as undertake extensive professional development and networking within the volunteer and volunteer management sectors.

Reena D'Souza

Training & Development Officer

Reena D'SouzaMy education  qualifications include a Bachelor ‘s in  Psychology Honours  and a Masters in Industrial Psychology. My working career has  been in  management positions  in Corporate Sales and Marketing at multinational and national organizations as well as in a training position at TAFE.

Having a young family, has seen me take time off from the corporate sector and get involved in volunteer work. Its the sense of fulfilment  that  I’ve achieved in this area,  has driven me to be more involved in the community sector.

WAAC has given me the opportunity to put my experience, skills and enthusiasm  in force. I see my future here as an exciting one and feel very fortunate to be in an environment that is supportive and open to new ideas.

Kristen Knox

Health Promotion Officer

Kristen KnoxMy employment as the Health Promotion Officer at WAAC  marks my second year in the Health Promotion sector. I graduated from ECU with a Bachelor of Health Science in 2008 and completed one year in the sector before moving to the United Kingdom and spending a year backpacking across the world. Upon my return to Perth I was delighted to be appointed as a member of staff at WAAC with such an amazing, supportive and fun group of colleagues who continue to teach me new things every day. I’m excited to be working in a role I am passionate about and very much looking forward to my future within the organisation.

Grace

Outreach Officer, Needle and Syringe Exchange Program

graceoh.jpg I started volunteering with WAAC in 1999, becoming an Outreach Officer with the Needle and Syringe Exchange Project (NSEP) since 2007. My background in Drug and Alcohol, Youth/Social Services and Education led to the opportunity to work with WAAC,  an organisation I strongly support because of its values, mission and passionate staff. As an NSEP Outreach Officer I deliver training to new volunteers and the broader community; endeavour to engage, support and provide education to reduce harm within the drug injecting community. The work is challenging, unique and diverse, and I aim to provide a non-judgemental supportive and positive experience to all of our clients. I value the experience, rapport and stories gained from a snapshot into a client’s life during a brief needle and syringe exchange.
