The Living Well Program

living_well.jpgThe rise of combination therapy for the management of HIV infection has had a huge impact on the lives of many people living with HIV. Having to tolerate the side effects of HIV treatments can sometimes be a rough ride. Feelings of nausea, tiredness, muscle and joint stiffness are all common side effects of many of the anti-HIV drugs. The Living Well Program assists in a holistic approach to health and well being for people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Living Well Program offers a range of complementary therapies to people living with HIV/AIDS. The aim of this program is to reduce some of the side effects of HIV medication, as well as giving participants a sense of well-being, empowerment and of course, providing a source of relaxation.

The Living Well Program is staffed by qualified practitioners who volunteer their time. The range of therapies offered varies from time to time, example of therapies are Massage, Reiki, Body Balance Energy Healing, Reflexology and Flower Essences

Download a PDF ot the  Living Well Pamphlet  here. For further information on this service, either to access or to volunteer for the programme contact Kelly on (08) 9482 0000.

Health Enhancement Team

yoga.jpgWAAC provides opportunities for people with HIV to meet with one another for support and education. Sometimes opportunities are organised in a workshop/forum format such as the annual Treatments Forum or they may be organised through a weekend retreat format. Other opportunities are structured programs such as the Chronic Disease Self Management course or Genesis which is a program for people newly diagnosed with HIV. Many people prefer one on one opportunities especially when initially engaging with services. All programs are confidential. If you would like to know more, or would like to be informed of opportunities please contact Cipri on (08) 9482 0000 or contact us.

The Health Enhancement Team is home for the Women’s Project. This project provides a number of varied services for women living with HIV. These include one-on-one emotional support, links to Women’s support group morning teas/bbq’s/dinners, Women’s Retreat, Family Day, Women’s Genesis, Workshops, Life Coaching and advocacy. The program also provides educational workshops for the broader community in the areas of HIV Facts, Women & HIV, S.H.E. (Sexual Health Education for young women). For support, education or referrals, please contact us.
