Your Donation Makes A Difference

Thank you for your interest in supporting the work of the Western Australian AIDS Council. Your donation allows us to continue our vital work of providing practical assistance and specially designed programs for those in our community directly affected by or at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.

+ As a charitable organisation, all donations over $2 to the Western Australian AIDS Council are tax-deductible.

beadribboncloseup.gifYour generous gift can make a substantial difference to people living with HIV, who are not only dealing with health issues, but are usually struggling financially to make ends meet. A 2006 survey conducted by the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society revealed that 28.3% of respondents were living below the poverty line, 51.6% had trouble paying for clothing, 60.4% had difficulty paying their utility bills, 64% were struggling to pay for basic accommodation, 51.6% couldn’t buy enough food to maintain their health adequately and 51.7% struggled with transport costs.

As the cost in all these areas has substantially increased since that survey was taken, the position of many people living with HIV has only worsened. For many people it is a constant struggle from day-to-day.

You may ask, how does my donation help people living with HIV/AIDS? There are many ways that your donation can assist, including:

  • The provision of a one hour massage or reiki session to ease the side effects of ongoing treatments or stress associated with HIV;
  • Paying a gas or electricity account so that it doesn’t get cut off in the middle of a cold winter;
  • Obtain Life Coaching to enable someone to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be in life;
  • Attendance at a retreat with other people living with HIV/AIDS in a safe and supportive environment where they can exchange experiences, discuss challenges and build confidence in dealing with the future.
The Western Australian AIDS Council also runs many innovative education programs aimed at educating people about HIV and other related conditions. Our target groups include gay men, young people, heterosexual men and women, people who inject drugs and Aboriginal people.

We present information to secondary school students about HIV/AIDS, safe sex and safe drug use and have presenters with HIV/AIDS who put a human face to that information. We also attend events such as the 'Big Day Out', 'Leavers’ Week' and 'Orientation Days' at all the Universities, making sure that the ‘Safe Sex, No Regrets’ message gets out to young people, so that they receive the right information and are prepared for situations that may arise.

+ Your gift of a donation makes a big difference & every cent given assists someone in need...
