Counselling
|
Professional and confidential counselling is available in a supportive environment. The counselling service is experienced in a range of issues including sexuality, gender issues, relationships, sexual health and living with HIV.
What is Counselling?
Counselling provides an opportunity to explore aspects of your life in a nonjudgmental and supportive atmosphere. Your counsellor will help you to examine issues, discover options and make decisions to enhance physical and emotional well-being.
Who can access it?
• People living with HIV, their partners, immediate family members or carers; • People contemplating HIV testing or waiting for results. • People from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered communities around issues of identity, relationships, sexuality and gender. Please feel free to speak to a counsellor if you are unsure whether the service will meet your needs.
How long will it take?
A counselling session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Depending on the issue being discussed you may find just 1 or 2 sessions are enough. However, for other issues, regular sessions over a longer period may be appropriate.
How much will it cost?
The following fees apply for counselling services: Individual Counselling (per session) $5.00 - Unwaged/Students (eligibility criteria - Health Care Card) $35.00 - Waged Couples Counselling (per session) $10.00 - (Both partners unwaged) $60.00 - Both waged. We work with a 'sliding payment scale', so please discuss these fees with your Counsellor. Fees can be waived at the discretion of the Counsellor; we do not want finances to be a barrier.
How do I make an appointment?
You do not need a referral. To make an appointment with one of our counsellors please phone during office hours.
