Sexuality and Gender
In Australia it is a popular myth within both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) and non- (ATSI) communities that “homosexuality” does not exist within ATSI culture. However, we do know that sistergirl, lesbian, gay and transgender communities exist through out Australia.

The term “sistergirl” is commonly used affectionately amongst Aboriginal women reflecting kinship. This term is also used within the sistergirl community, meaning an individual born biologically male who identifies as female. The usage of sistergirl terminology is clearly influenced by the diversity of communities, and will often be defined within a community depending on geographical location.

If you are a sistergirl, lesbian, gay or trangender young person living in WA it's important to remember that you are not alone.  For more information contact WAAC on 9482 0000
